Football bet types explained

Let’s unpack the various bet types in more detail below.

Full-Time Result

1x2 Bet

This is a pretty straightforward bet type and one of the most common. As the name implies, you’re betting on the match result. It’s typically shown as 1×2 (1 is a home win, X is a draw, and 2 is an away win).

Normal Time Definition

The best betting sites set Full-Time Result football bets based on normal time, which is 90 minutes + injury time. So, you’re betting on the match outcome, excluding penalties or extra time.

Double Chance

The Double Chance wager gives you an opportunity to wager on two possible results in a single bet.  So, if you wager on the home team to win or draw, you win if the match ends in a win or a draw.  As you can see, this bet type significantly increases your winning chances.

Football Accumulator

Instead of placing a single bet, you switch things up by combining multiple bets into one. However, the catch is all your selections must win for you to ultimately win the Football Accumulator bet. If you opt for this bet type, go with short odds. This boosts your winning chances compared to using longer odds.

Total Goals, (Under/Over)

Total Goals

This is yet another common bet type where you predict if the total goals scored in a match from either one or both teams will be higher or lower than the set figure. The sportsbook typically sets the estimated total score when the football match ends at normal time.

Correct Score (CS)

The Correct Score bet means exactly that. You bet on the exact scoreline once a football match ends. For example, you decide if the final score will be 2-1 or 1-0. It’s a tricky bet, though, because there are just so many potential scorelines. Also, the odds for this bet aren’t always the best.

Win and Score Exact Goal

Outcome + Correct Score

This is a complex bet that requires you to predict which team will win the match as well as the exact number of goals to be scored. It’s different from the Correct Score bet type mentioned earlier in that you predict the winning team, and it doesn’t matter who scores the goals.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS)

BTTS

No mental gymnastics are needed for this bet type. Simply answer the question yes or no to whether you reckon both teams will score in a match. There are several scenarios. You can predict if both teams will score in the First Half, Second Half, or Both Halves.

Half Time/Full Time (HT/FT)

Two predictions are required with this wager, also known as a Double Result bet. You predict the result at halftime as well as full-time but in a single wager. This bet gives you better odds compared to betting on a single Full Time result.

First Goal Scorer (FGS)

First Goal Scorer

If you think you know who will be the first player to score a goal in a match, this bet type gives you a chance to put your money where your mouth is. Or you can opt for No Goal Scorer if you believe no one will. This goal usually has pretty good odds, so if you know your players well, go for it.

Last Goal Scorer (LGS)

Last Goal Scorer

This is pretty much like the First Goal Scorer bet, but in reverse. You bet on the player you think will score the last goal. Both bet types usually have exactly the same odds.  It’s a great wager to jump on if you’re well-versed with football teams and players.

Half Time Result (HTR)

Here, you bet on the result in a game when the half-time whistle is blown, including injury time. Much like the Full Time Result bet, you wager on the team you think will win, draw, or lose come halftime. Your chances of nailing this bet are higher if teams are playing it safe and aren’t willing to take big risks in the first half.

Draw No Bet (DNB)

Draw no Bet

This bet works much like the Full Time Result Bet. The only major difference is that the Draw option has been removed. So you wager on if a team will win or lose.

If the result ends as a draw, you get your stake back. It’s a great wager for cautious bettors. You only pick between two bet outcomes and can always fall on the Draw option to save you from losing your stake.

First Goal Method

First Goal Method

Here, you bet on how you think the first goal will be scored. A standard goal via a kick is usually unavailable to bet on, but you’ll find headers, free kicks, penalties, and so on. The odds are pretty decent depending on the type of goal, so you stand to win big if you get this right.

Asian Handicap Betting (AH)

This is a common bet type that originated in Asia. Both teams are assigned a goals handicap. A handicap is a virtual lead over the other team. You then wager on the match outcome after the handicap.

Bookings and Discipline

A game of football isn’t always a bed of roses and can be filled with small misdemeanors from players. You can bet on the number of yellow cards a referee will show, known as Bookings. Or if any players will face discipline due to misconduct.

Football Bet Types FAQs

The Moneyline is hands down one of the most common wagers. You simply pick the team you think will win or lose a game.

No one strategy can guarantee you a win. However, researching teams, players, past stats, and match conditions ahead of a game can help you place informed wagers, increasing your winning chances.
